Out and About

Within a short walk Tregaron offers the Talbot Hotel, an ancient Drover's Inn as old as the town itself (13th Century) with its oak beams, stone walls and open fires. The Talbot sits on the town square so provides a hub for the various events in the town: Ffair Garon (a traditional fair held on Whit Monday), the three day August horse trotting extravaganza (August Bank Holiday) and Diwrnod y Porthmyn (a fundraising event held the beginning of November). It is also well known for its live entertainment (organised by local society Cambria Arts) with artists such as Paul Young, Albert Lee, Chris Jagger and the Welsh Meic Stevens, Heather Jones and Elin Fflur (to name but a few) having performed here on more than one occasion. It is also where a passing circus troupe buried their elephant after it died in 1848!

Tregaron also has Rhiannon's Gold Centre, Cambrian Art Gallery, Red Kite Centre and Cors Caron, Britain's largest rising peat bog.

Tregaron has a Barclays Bank, garages, Post Office, Library, Leisure Centre, several general stores and a selection of other small shops.

Five minutes up the road is Pentre Bach, where the children's programme featuring Sali Mali and Jac y Jwc is filmed. Further a field are Mid Wales Activity Centre, Strata Florida Abbey, Devil's Bridge Falls and the historic towns of Aberystwyth to the north and Lampeter and Carmarthen to the south.

"The Strata" is one of the most famous "greenlanes" and attracts 4x4 drivers from all over the country, (it starts at the abbey and ends up over the Abergwesyn road) there is also many other lanes around Aberystwyth/Machynlleth and also one which ends up in Llandewi Brefi the home of "Little Britan".

The small university town of Lampeter is a 20 minute drive away with post office, banks, supermarkets, take-aways and a wide selection of cafes and pubs. The West Wales coast is a further 15 minutes away where you’ll find the scenic resort of Aberaeron and a variety of beaches.
