Google Maps – If you enter the post code (SY25 6HD) into Google Maps (maps.google.co.uk) the post code arrow is right on the cottage.
Food Shopping - I highlight the last supermarkets you’ll pass as you drive to Tregaron, but there is a Spar in the village itself, and a corner shop slightly closer.
Directions from M4/South Wales – motorway route
Go to the end of the M4 (J49) and take the A483 toward Ammanford and then Llandeilo.
Drive straight through Llandeilo (Llandeilo Co-op is the last supermarket you will pass, or you can make a small detour to Lampeter Co-op).
Just after leaving Llandeilo go straight over the roundabout and 50 yards further on take the left-hand turn onto the B4302 toward Talley.
Drive through Talley and after another 4 miles take a left turn at the T junction, by the Bridgend Pub, onto the A482 towards Lampeter.
Follow the A482 until you arrive at the village of Cwmanne after about 9 miles. Turn right on the B4343 towards Cellan just before you leave the village. If you miss this turn you’ll end up in Lampeter, where you can turn around or just follow the signs for Tregaron.
NOTE: You can go past the Cellan turning and Lampeter Co-op supermarket is 200 yards further along this road if you missed the one in Llandeilo. Then double back or carry on through Lampeter, depending on whether you want to see Lampeter University or drive through Llandewi Brefi.
Continue along the B4343 through Cellan, Llanfair and the famous Llandewi Brefi (stopping for the obligatory photo beside the road sign – I think they are getting a bit sick of replacing this sign so if you could leave it behind!) until you reach Tregaron.
In Tregaron follow the road around to the left at the square, past the garage on your left and over a little bridge. Immediately after the bridge turn left toward Lampeter.
The cottage is 150 yards down this road on the right. You will see the golden gravelled parking bay, next to the cottage and the timber decking in front of the front door. The Welsh house sign – Yr Yen Orsaf Den – is set into the stone wall above the decking. Park anywhere in the gravel bay.
Directions from South/Middle England – the scenic route
Although this route is on A roads after Swindon it is about 30 miles shorter than the motorway route. So taking this into account, how busy the South-Wales stretch of the M4 can get on a Friday/Saturday and the fact this road takes you through some gorgeous scenery past the Brecon Beacons it is well worth considering.
Come off the M4 at J15 onto the A419 at Swindon.
At Cirencester take the A417 toward Gloucester.
At Gloucester take the A40 toward Ross-on-Wye.
Stay on the A40 all the way across Wales to Llandovery, through Llandovery and then four miles further on to Llanwrda.
NB. Llandovery Somerfield is the last supermarket you will pass.
At Llanwrda take a right turn onto the A482 toward Lampeter.
Follow the A482 until you arrive at the village of Cwmanne after about 16 miles. Turn right on the B4343 towards Cellan just before you leave the village. If you miss this turn you’ll end up in Lampeter, where you can turn around or just need to follow the signs for Tregaron.
NB: You can go past the Cellan turning and Lampeter Co-op supermarket is 200 yards further along this road if you missed the one in Llandeilo. Then double back or carry on through Lampeter, depending on whether you want to see Lampeter University or drive through Llandewi Brefi.
